On the Way There

The drive from Puerto Princesa Airport to the Daluyon Resort is around 2 hours. The road is a stereotypical mountain/jungle road, i.e., curvy and hilly and lots of blind curves. There was one road to Daluyon, with occasional forks, and the road was a simple two-lane concrete road, with occasional lane paint. Occasionally, the road would cut out and be dirt and rock and bumpy as all get out as the driver goes 60-80 km/hour (40-50 mph). At one point, there were patches of concrete and patches of dirt in one lane like a checkerboard column.

The drive to Daluyon was a little scary because of the driving. The driver drove in the middle of the two lanes when he was alone on the road and kind of swerve out of the way when someone popped up going the other way. He would honk and pass up someone in front of us, generally motorcycles. He was going 60-80 km/hour (40-50 mph) pretty much at all times. The road is very curvy and swervy and in general not straight or flat.

The countryside is absolutely gorgeous. Everything is green. Everything. The mountains are covered up by dense jungle. The only rock you can see is on the side of the road where they hewed it and on vertical cliff faces. The air is the freshest and cleanest you have ever breathed. All of the businesses are carbon-neutral, which means that they try their hardest to save as much power as possible. This means things like automatic or very faint lights, waterless urinals, and solar heated water.

All along the roads are little shacks made of bamboo with woven reed walls. Those are where the natives live. All of the houses have a dog or two and a farm and a chicken and maybe a carabao (similar to a water buffalo) if they are rice farmers. Some of the nicer houses have corrugated tin roofs.

I sat in the back of the van where there was an individual seat next to a big window and was snapping off pictures the whole time, jumping from one side to the other trying to take pictures of both sides. I got a lot of pictures. I think it added up to around 450 pictures for the whole trip, one plane flight to the other. The next picture post will be all of my driving around and scenic places that isn't a specific place or event. I'll split it up for your sake.
